It’s just about time! After years of performances all over the world either as co-leader of the group Subtone or as a sideman with different other projects pianist Florian Hoefner finally enters the scene as a bandleader. The two-time winner of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award introduces his new quartet with some of the finest young musicians from New York City.
Florian’s writing has been featured on six international CD releases, including a collaboration with guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel. The new quartet presents a set of brand new originals that air the great calmness and melodic energy reminding you of the great songs of our times. It is music that also appeals to an audience that feels more attracted to the Beatles than to Bebop. At the same time, educated in an environment that recently produced artists like Aaron Parks, Jason Moran or Stefon Harris, the four play at the top of their craft and perform some cutting-edge jazz that will make any true jazz lover happy.
Mike Ruby on tenor sax has already been compared with the young Joshua Redman and regularly performs with Ari Hoenig. Bassist Sam Anning is the winner of the Bell Award as Young Jazz Musician of the Year in Australia and has performed with artists like George Garzone and Jim Black. Peter Kronreif on drums has already played on more than 30 CD releases and as a sought-after tour drummer can be heard in many different countries all over the world.
